@yourmusiceducation1961 pop music was, shall we say, interesting. Songwriters and lyricists shoved together into small offices trying to write the next hit and sell whatever they could to the next no-name band trying to play the next hit. And record companies hiring people for their looks rather than for their musicianship. Sounds a lot like the music industry in 2023, come to think of it. Looking back, we can see that the period between 1959-1963 was a transitional period between early rock ‘n’ roll and the guitar-heavy sounds of the British Invasion. Music in the early 60s drew inspiration from the crooners from the 40s and 50s as well as the younger sounds of rock ‘n’ roll. Music business was big business, but in the aftermath of the Payola scandal, the future seemed uncertain. Some harken back to the simpler days of the early 60s, while others begrudge this music as a mere stepping stone to greater things.
