They were surprised even further when the song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of January 1, 1966 and again January 22. It would go on to reach #1 on the Cashbox Magazine Top 100 Singles chart the next week. That was only the beginning of a wildly eclectic year of pop hits. The Monkees, Tommy James and the Shandells, The Young Rascals, and Nancy Sinatra also had their first time stop the charts. Frank Sinatra got his first Hot 100 #1 that year as well (he had Billboard #1s from before the Hot 100 era. SSgt Barry Sadler had a surprise hit that ended up being one of the best selling singles that year. California Dreamin’ was the top song of the year, but it did not hit #1 on the Hot 100. #musichistory #learnontiktok #music #oldschool #yourmusiceducation #nostalgia #throwback #throwbacksongs #60smusic #1966 #paulsimon #simonandgarfunkel #thebeatles #paulmccartney #johnlennon #georgeharrison #ringostarr #petulaclark #louchristie #nancysinatra #therighteousbrothers #theyoungrascals #themamasandthepapas #percysledge #therollingstones #franksinatra #tommyjamestheshondells #donovan #thesupremes #dianaross #themonkees #johnnyrivers #beachboys #thesoundofsilence #wecanworkitout #mylove #lightningstrike #thesebootsaremadeforwalking #greenberet #youremysoulandinspiration #goodlovin #monday #whenamanlovesawoman #paintitblack #paperbackwriter #strangers #night #hankypanky #wildthing #summerinthecity #sunshinesuperman #youcanthurrylove #cherish #reachout #illbethere #lasttraintoclarksville #poorsideoftown #youkeepmehanginon #winchestercathedral #goodvibes #goodvibesonly #imabeliever
