@yourmusiceducationReplying to @proverbialsunrise FINALLY MADE IT! Every #1 song from 1968. The year that MLK was assassinated and the Civil Rights Act was signed into law was also the year that the first posthumous #1 song topped the Hot 100. Otis Redding’s first and only #1, the landmark (Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay. Herb Alpert got his first #1 with his version of Burt Bacharach’s “This Guy’s In Love with You” (and he remains the only artist to achieve the feat with both vocal and instrumental tracks). In spite of 4 #1 albums from 1965-1967 with the Tijuana Brass (which initially was simply multitrack recordings of Alpert on trumpet), this was his first #1 single. Speaking of instrumentals, two instrumental tracks topped the charts for a combined 7 weeks. In comments on this video@yourmusiceducation , some of you have suggested Bobby Goldsboro’s hit “Honey” was the saddest song ever recorded. Be that as it may, it replaced Redding’s posthumous #1 and held on for 5 weeks. The Beatles topped the charts the longest for a total of 11 weeks (plus one at the end of 1967). #musichistory #learnontiktok #music #oldschool #yourmusiceducation #60smusic #1968 #thebeatles #paulmccartney #johnlennon #ringostarr #georgeharrison #paulmauriat #otisredding #bobbygoldsboro #archiebellandthedrells #simonandgarfunkel #paulsimon #artgarfunkel #herbalpert #thetijuanabrass #hughmasekela #thedoors #jimmorrison #therascals #jeanniecriley #dianaross #thesupremes #marvingaye #hellogoodbye #love #loveisblue #sittinonthedockofthebay #honey #tightenup #mrsrobinson #thisguy #inlove #inlovewithyou #helloiloveyou #peoplegottobefree #harpervalleypta #heyjude #lovechild #hippieaesthetic #lovesongs #love #mashup
