@yourmusiceducationReplying to @backitupterrrrry Here we go, Hanson fanatics. MMM1997. The #1 song for the year was Elton John’s remake of his 1973 song Candle in the Wind with updated lyrics for Princess Diana’s funeral. It has become the second best selling song of all time, being Bing Crosby’s White Christmas. Princess Di’s funeral was an international event, which is reflected in how Elton John’s single held the top position for 14 weeks between 1997 and 1998. The Notorious B.I.G. also met an untimely end that year giving him an unrivaled two posthumous #1 singles as well as a tribute by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans that included unauthorized sampling from The Police’s “Every Breath You Take” and, upon litigation, ended up granting Sting 100% royalties to the song. As of 2020, Sting was reportedly earning $2,000 per day from the song. Ouch. As with every year in the 90s, Mariah Carey shows up and all is right with the world. #musichistory #learnontiktok #music #oldschool #yourmusiceducation #nostalgia #throwback #90smusic #1997 #tonibraxton #spicegirls #puffdaddy #mase #thenotoriousbig #biggiesmalls #hanson #faithevans #112 #mariahcarey #boyziimen #eltonjohn #unbreakmyheart #wannabe #cantnobodyholdmedown #hypnotize #mmmbop #illbemissingyou #momoneymoproblems #honey #4seasons #loneliness #candleinthewind #sting #everybreathyoutake #princessdiana
